Communication basics everyone needs to know

I met with a friend for coffee.

and… I’m the kind of friend that pinches.

She’s going through major life challenges, and I poked.

(She cried 🥲)

Good thing is, I helped her see she was just re-entering the same old pattern, AGAIN.

I’m always grateful when friends poke me to that level, so I try to replicate that a bit.

Afterwards I reminded her, “Hey, you know I’ll poke - but if you don’t want that, all you have to do is raise your hands and tell me to stop, and I’ll happily change subject.”

Which sent me down a loophole of thinking about communication.

How IMPORTANT is it to communicate clearly.

Our limits, our beliefs, our needs.

Clearly, my friend came over to meet me because she KNOWS I’ll poke her, and that’s kinda implicit into our relationship.

But it’s super important to remind people that whatever is the status quo - it doesn't always have to be like that.

You hold the power.

(I’ve got the power 🎤)

But, you’ll make the most out of that power if you COMMUNICATE clearly.

And clear communication is NOT that professional style they taught you at school or college.

(sorry to break it to you like this)

So you can forget a lot of that and not miss it, ever.

Clear communication happens when you get what you intended.

So, when you NEED something to happen,

you say whatever you need to say…

in whatever format you want to say it…

such that the consequence of you saying it…

is exactly what you are after.

Funnily enough, most of the time, we have NO idea what we are after when we start creating content of any kind.

And we need to understand that WHATEVER we create as business personas,

(and specially as solopreneurs)

…is communication with our clients.

And we need to understand that WHAT we say to them, and HOW WE SAY IT, matters.

How your website is written.

What your Instagram post says.

What the ads say.

How your reels scripts goes.

What yous EMAILS say.

(WHAT?! You are NOT sending emails?! Oh, dear…)

Anyway, I probably could go on forever…

Let’s sum it up and say: EVERYTHING that has the job of creating customers, is KEY to your business success.

(If you need some help with that, well, you know I’ve got you covered, just hit reply)

So, to sum up -

Yes, my friend still loves me, even if I made her cry.

Yes, my friend knows her limits and communicates them.

and YOU need to review your business communication strategy.
